Commemorate your loved one

Small plant held in the palm of a hand

If you have lost a loved one, you might be looking for ways you can commemorate their life. Whether you want to do this privately on your own or with a group of everyone who was touched by your loved one – there are lots of meaningful ways you can honour their life.

We have listed some ideas, which we hope will be useful, but there is no limit to what you can do – just make it personal to you and the person you have lost.

Commemoration ideas

Ideas for 1-2 people

  • Plant a tree in their memory.
  • Create a memory box or a memory book filled with photos, cuttings, anything that reminds you of them.
  • Plant bulbs in memory and watch them return each year.
  • Garden memorial rocks are a beautiful way to create a space in your garden to remember them.
  • Create a video compilation of moments and memories that you shared together.
  • Create a wind chime for the times when the world seems too quiet without your loved one.

Ideas for groups

  • Lantern walk – get everyone together and go for a walk after dark by lantern light to enjoy the stars.
  • Memory walk – go for a walk where your special person loved most. A nature walk can often bring a sense of peace.
  • Movie night – get everyone together and share memories as you watch their favourite movie.
  • Bubble release – create a magical experience as everyone fills the air with bubbles.
  • Party – A BBQ or a gig get everyone together to celebrate their life and the happy moments you had together.
  • Candlelight vigil – dozens or hundreds of candles lit just after sunset is truly memorable.

You can also set up a tribute page as an online space to share memories, thoughts and remember the person you lost either privately or with family and friends.
