On two intimate and magical summer evenings in June, we hosted the fifth Opera at Syon event for Brain research UK, raising over £119,900 for vital neurological research.
Guests enjoyed two magnificent performances by the renowned Diva Opera Company of Puccini’s ‘La Bohème’ and Rossini’s ‘La Cenerentola’, on the 10th and 11th June respectively, together with a champagne and canape reception and delicious three course picnic dinner, in the beautiful setting of the Great Conservatory Syon Park, Brentford.

The skilful and eloquent auctioneer, Adrian Biddell, hosted an auction on both days. There were some superb items on offer that included: unique cufflinks, designed by Nada Le Cavelier; a vineyard tour, guided wine tasting and light lunch for up to 10 people at Yote Court; dinner in the private dining room at Syon House for up to 22 people; a weekend for two at Churburg Castle, Italy and a dine and stay experience at Paul Ainsworth’s St Enodoc Hotel, Rock, Cornwall.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the members of the Opera at Syon Committee, not only for their continued much-valued support and generosity, but also to their guests and auctioneer Adrian Biddell. Together with our Trustee, Professor Kevin Talbot, who joined us once again and who, with committee member Alex Cawley, spoke so well emphasising the urgent need to fund more neurological research.
The £119,900 raised will help fund research in our three prioty areas, brain tumours, acquired brain and spinal injuries, and headache and facial pain. To better understand, improve diagnosis and treatments and work towards the prevention of brain conditions that that still devastate too many lives.
